The Gibbon Conservation Center (GCC), based in Santa Clarita, California, is home to one of the largest and most genetically diverse groups of gibbons in the Western Hemisphere. Dedicated to the care, conservation, and study of these rare apes, the Center provides a sanctuary for all four genera of gibbons while advancing global education and research initiatives.
In 2024–2025, the Orangutan Conservancy awarded $15,000 to support critical infrastructure repairs and improvements at the facility. This grant is part of a larger $73,000 construction project co-funded by the Abraham Foundation, Greenberg Animal Foundation, and public supporters.
The project includes:
- Electrical upgrades to improve safety and reliability across the grounds.
- Essential repairs to existing enclosures and structures.
- New construction, including Rocky’s House and a modernized enclosure for Perak, enhancing welfare and providing more naturalistic living environments.
By investing in these upgrades, the Orangutan Conservancy and its partners are helping ensure that GCC can continue to provide the highest standard of care for its resident gibbons—many of whom are critically endangered in the wild—while supporting education and outreach that foster greater understanding of Asia’s lesser apes.
